Plan B

Daily Post Theme: Heard It started as a tiny whimper, then a gasp, and finally a loud grunt.  The baby monitor vibrated on my nightstand as she heaved a perturbed cry.  I heard a thump and another cry.  In the dark, I reach for the monitor and pressed the video button without looking.  A blast of white light hit my eyelids and I gently peaked through tiny slits to see her standing in her crib, attached like a barnacle to the railing.  Standing, oh heavens why is she standing?  A quick glance at the clock tells me that 2:45 am … Continue reading Plan B

the magic of a good home

A few days ago, I walked by this little note, “Free to a good home! (Smiley-face)”.  The note and book were left outside of the copier room where I work.  Logically, a good place to stash unwanted items, since the copier room is a pretty central location with a fair amount of foot traffic.  Surely, someone would give it a good home as soon as possible.  It sat untouched for several days. I admit, I passed the poor little book for three days and looked at it every time I passed it by.  By the third day, I decided that … Continue reading the magic of a good home

the album

Daily Post Theme:  Ten When I was a pre-teen I went through a little grunge rock phase, but didn’t everybody?  Thanks to MTV, I discovered the sounds of new bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Temple of the Dog, Toadies, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.  My favorite was Pearl Jam.  I used to listen to the album Ten on my walkman at night when I was supposed to be sleeping.  I would rewind and play the anthem songs of my youth over and over. His voice is still ingrained in my mind.  Ripped jeans and flannel shirts were my security … Continue reading the album

the roseanne afghan

A few years ago, my husband and I decided to ditch cable TV.  We got tired of flipping through endless channels in search of something interesting to watch.  TV seemed like a waste of time especially since we could be doing something else with our time, like go for a walk or read or do something productive.  If we do watch TV in the evening, we are usually fixed on the LAFF channel.  We happened upon it one night when we spotted a re-run episode of Night Court.  My husband LOVES the Night Court theme song and we caught ourselves watching a … Continue reading the roseanne afghan

wrap it up

This weekend, I finished a few projects.  One really big one and a little fun one. Our cat, Mika, just loves the texture of our couch and enjoys (to no end) digging into the fabric to sharpen her little talons.  There is nothing you can do to keep her from sprinting up to the couch, scratching furiously, and then taking off before you can shush her along.  I think she secretly loves watching me run after her.  The couch has turned into one giant cat scratching post.  She has destroyed the sides. My little sweet baby is mobile now and she semi-crawling. … Continue reading wrap it up

knitting is never a waste of time

~quote of the day~ “Sometimes, people come up to me when I am knitting and they say things like, “Oh, I wish I could knit, but I’m just not the kind of person who can sit and waste time like that.” How can knitting be wasting time? First, I never just knit; I knit and think, knit and listen, knit and watch. Second, you aren’t wasting time if you get a useful or beautiful object at the end of it. I will remember that not everyone understands. I will resist the urge to ask others what they do when they … Continue reading knitting is never a waste of time

baby jane – 7 months

Time has really zipped by with this little one.  She is now 7 months old, eating solid foods, teething, and prepping to crawl.  She is the light of my life and the twinkle in my eye.  She makes me laugh.  She makes me tired.  She has made me cry. Since her arrival, I have ridden the wave of joy with both excitement and utter exhaustion.  Becoming a Mama has been the single most difficult and yet most rewarding experience of my life so far.  Everyday is something new.  I really never imagined that my life could ever be so full. … Continue reading baby jane – 7 months
